Helix

Formed in Kitchener, Ontario, in 1974, Helix is rooted in the Canadian hard rock and heavy metal tradition, with a sound built on straightforward riffs, catchy choruses, and an aesthetic at times close to 1980s glam metal. The band’s history is marked by numerous lineup changes, with singer Brian Vollmer remaining the group’s constant since its inception. After two early independent albums, Breaking Loose (1979) and White Lace & Black Leather (1981), Helix reached a new level with No Rest for the Wicked (1983) and Walkin’ the Razor’s Edge (1984), which includes “Rock You,” a song long associated with the band. Helix followed with Long Way to Heaven (1985) and Wild in the Streets (1987), sharing stages with many names from the North American hard rock scene. The 1990s saw further reshuffles and the death of guitarist Paul Hackman in 1992. Nonetheless, Helix continued with Back for Another Taste (1990) and returned to regular recordings in the 2000s and 2010s with Vagabond Bones (2009), Bastard of the Blues (2014), Old School (2019) and Eat Sleep Rock (2020). Still active on stage, Helix continues to deliver direct, no-nonsense hard rock.
