Grupo Cañaveral De Humberto Pabón
Founded in Mexico City in 1995 by Humberto Pabón, a musician born in Colombia, Grupo Cañaveral de Humberto Pabón continues the tradition of Colombian cumbia reinterpreted within the Mexican tropical scene. The group developed a festive, melodic cumbia formula driven by danceable rhythms, accessible arrangements and a repertoire designed both for the dance floor and for Latin America's popular radio. Over the years the band established itself with songs such as "No mientas más", "No te voy a perdonar" and "Flor de mayo", and entered a new phase in 2010 when Emir Pabón, the founder's son, joined as lead singer, notably associated with the track "Hui pi pi". Grupo Cañaveral de Humberto Pabón's discography includes Disco Cumbia México (2011), Disco Cumbia México Vol. 2 (2013), Juntos Por La Cumbia (2014) — recorded with Los Ángeles Azules — and Fiesta Total (2016). Balancing Colombian heritage, contemporary Mexican cumbia and constant presence on Latin popular stages, Grupo Cañaveral preserves an identity linked to dance, the collective format and the tropical tradition.
