Goldie Lookin Chain

Born in Newport, Wales, Goldie Lookin Chain formed in the early 2000s as a multi-voice rap collective driven by a satirical take on hip-hop and a strong local grounding. They blend simple beats, barroom-style choruses, absurd humor and observations on everyday Welsh life, British popular culture and the clichés of American rap, often delivered in an intentionally crude register. Before reaching a wider audience the group released a number of self-produced recordings—most notably The Manifesto in 2003—before signing to East West, which helped bring Greatest Hits (2004) and Safe as Fuck (2005) to national attention. During this period they also circulated on the British live circuit, including alongside The Darkness, and were part of the broader Cool Cymru moment. Their subsequent discography shows steady output, with Under the Counter (2008), Blue Waffle (2011), Greatest Hits 2 (2015), Mike Balls Boutique (2023) and The Mix Tape 6 (2024). Behind the parody, Goldie Lookin Chain has crafted an identity of comic rap, an unapologetic Welsh accent and a precise sense of cultural pastiche.
