The Lancashire Hotpots
Formed in 2006 in St Helens, Merseyside, The Lancashire Hotpots developed a brand of comedy folk rooted in Lancashire culture, combining narrative songs, British humour and an overt use of the local dialect. The group coalesced around Bernard Thresher, Bob Wriggles and Dickie Ticker after several joint projects, with the idea of applying folk conventions to very contemporary subjects such as everyday life, technology and popular English habits. The Lancashire Hotpots first released Never Mind the Hotpots in 2007, then Pot Sounds in 2008, followed by albums such as Criminal Record (2010), Achtung Gravy (2011), A Hard Day’s Pint (2012), Now’t Like the 80’s (2016) and Sing-A-Longa Knees Up Jamboree (2018). After founding member Willie Eckerslike died in 2010, the line-up evolved with the arrival of Billy McCartney and Kenny Body, and later Ron Seal in 2016, consolidating a six-piece collective. On stage, The Lancashire Hotpots move between venues, festivals and media appearances — including Glastonbury, Kendal Calling and the BBC — in a format where the band’s interplay matters as much as the songcraft.
