Formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, And So I Watch You from Afar have developed since the late 2000s an instrumental rock at the intersection of post‑rock, math rock and noise rock, with tracks built around tempo changes, interlocking guitars and an intensity drawn as much from punk as from melodic hardcore. The band initially comprised Rory Friers, Tony Wright, Ewen Friers and Chris Wee, before guitarist Niall Kennedy joined in 2011. The debut album And So I Watch You from Afar was released in 2009, followed by Gangs in 2011 and All Hail Bright Futures in 2013, where the group broadened its writing with more open textures and more pronounced melodic touches. Heirs arrived in 2015, The Endless Shimmering in 2017, and Jettison in 2022, a more narrative‑structured work featuring contributions from Emma Ruth Rundle and Neil Fallon. In 2024 And So I Watch You from Afar released Megafauna. Across these records the band has retained a formula without a lead vocalist, focused on the quartet’s collective dynamics and on a dense, physical and progressive instrumental approach, situated within the circuits of British, Irish and international independent rock.
