Glenn Miller Orchestra

Formed in the United States in the late 1930s around trombonist and bandleader Glenn Miller, the Glenn Miller Orchestra belongs to the tradition of large swing and dance‑jazz ensembles. The orchestra’s first incarnation made its mark in ballrooms, on radio and in film, with a style built around tightly written arrangements, a saxophone section dominated by the clarinet, precise brass and vocal refrains close to popular song. After Glenn Miller’s disappearance in 1944, the band was relaunched in the 1950s with the family’s approval, creating a permanent line‑up that continued to tour. The current Glenn Miller Orchestra operates as a full big band—rhythm section, brass and reeds—and is chiefly devoted to the swing‑era repertoire: standards associated with Glenn Miller and adaptations of more recent songs in that idiom. Regularly appearing in North America, Europe and Asia, the Glenn Miller Orchestra remains active in concert halls, jazz festivals and themed tours focused on the music of the 1930s and 1940s.
