Fresku
Between Eindhoven and his family roots in Curaçao, Fresku develops Dutch-language rap where humour sits alongside highly narrative songwriting. Born in 1986, the rapper made his mark on the Dutch hip‑hop scene at the end of the 2000s, first through tracks released online and videos made with director Teemong that established his blend of satire, self‑deprecation and social reflection. Signed to the Top Notch label, Fresku released a self-titled debut album in 2010, marked by an introspective tone and lyrics focused on identity, fatherhood and his relationship to Dutch society. The album 'Maskerade', released in 2012, continues these themes by exploring the tension between public persona and private life, while 'Nooit meer terug' (2015) deepens the personal and melancholic dimension of his writing. Musically, Fresku relies on hip‑hop productions at moderate tempos, influenced by American and Caribbean rap, alternating between measured tracks, detailed storytelling and more direct songs. Present on numerous features within the Dutch scene and active as a writer of video sketches and an occasional actor, Fresku cultivates an image of a versatile artist at the crossroads of rap, comedy and social commentary.
