Eva Ayllón
Born in Lima and a central figure in música criolla and Afro-Peruvian music, Eva Ayllón developed from the 1970s a repertoire rooted in the vals, festejo, landó and marinera, straddling intimate songs and more rhythmic forms. She first drew attention in peñas and variety television programs in Peru before embarking on a steady recording career and expanding collaborations with guitarists, percussionists and arrangers connected to the music of Peru’s Pacific coast. Over the decades Eva Ayllón deepened the link between Afro-Peruvian traditions and popular song formats, notably revisiting compositions by Chabuca Granda and criollo songwriters from different generations. Established long-term on Lima’s major stages and later within networks of venues across Latin America, the United States and Europe, she alternates performances with compact acoustic ensembles and more orchestrated projects. Her trajectory thus represents a continuity between transmitting a specific musical heritage and adapting to international stage contexts, while keeping voice, narrative and rhythm central to her interpretations.
