Eraldo Bernocchi

Born in Milan in 1963, Eraldo Bernocchi has, since the mid‑1980s, built a career closely linked to the Italian experimental and European post‑industrial scenes. Initially active in Sigillum S, a group founded in 1985, Bernocchi worked with a sonic palette of electronics, dark ambient, ritual textures and noise before expanding into dub, film music, metal and various forms of improvisation. His personal and side projects — including Ashes, SIMM, SOMMA, Charged, Obake and Metallic Taste of Blood — reveal a transversal practice in which guitar, sound processing and composition intersect without settling into a single format. Over the years he has collaborated with, among others, Bill Laswell, Mick Harris, Harold Budd, Robin Guthrie, Toshinori Kondo, Raiz and Hoshiko Yamane. Notable discographic landmarks include Ashland (1994), Corpus (1996), Music for Fragments from The Inside (2005) with Harold Budd, Winter Garden (2011) with Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie, and Mujo (2020) with Hoshiko Yamane. He also contributed to the soundtrack of Nirvana and co‑authored the score for Denti, extending his dense, atmospheric and often hybrid sonic writing into cinema.
