Epik High
Active since 2002 in Seoul, Epik High brings together Tablo, Mithra Jin and DJ Tukutz in a trio that first emerged on Korea’s underground hip-hop scene, notably around the crew Movement. Epik High crafts a rap that is both melodic and dense, rooted in boom bap and alternative hip-hop but open to pop, rock, soul and electronic arrangements, with a strong emphasis on sung choruses and lyrics about social life, collective pressure, relationships and doubt. After Map of the Human Soul (2003) and High Society (2004), Epik High broadened their audience with Swan Songs (2005), and confirmed that shift with Remapping the Human Soul (2007) and Pieces, Part One (2008). The trio then launched their own label, Map the Soul, took a hiatus due to the military service of Mithra Jin and DJ Tukutz, and returned with 99 (2012), Shoebox (2014) and We've Done Something Wonderful (2017). Based since 2018 within their structure Ours Co., Epik High has continued independently with the EP Sleepless in __________ (2019), the two-part album Epik High Is Here (2021 and 2022), then Strawberry and Screen Time (2023), before the mixtape Pump (2024). On stage, Epik High also marked their international trajectory by becoming the first Korean group invited to Coachella in 2016.
