El Último De La Fila
Founded in Barcelona in the mid-1980s, El Último De La Fila brought together singer Manolo García and guitarist Quimi Portet, who had already worked together in the bands Los Rápidos and Los Burros. Positioned within the post-Movida Spanish rock movement, the duo developed a sound that blended pop rock, touches of new wave, Mediterranean influences and elements drawn from rumba and flamenco, driven by a highly recognisable voice and lyrics that are both quotidian and introspective. The group came to prominence with the album “Cuando la pobreza entra por la puerta, el amor salta por la ventana” in 1985, and consolidated its status with “Enemigos de lo ajeno” (1986) and “Como la cabeza al sombrero” (1988), which established El Último De La Fila on Spain’s major stages. Their trajectory continued into the early 1990s with “Nuevo pequeño catálogo de seres y estares” (1990), “Astronomía razonable” (1993) and “La rebelión de los hombres rana” (1995), marking a shift toward more elaborate arrangements and a more contemplative songwriting approach. Active until the late 1990s, El Último De La Fila remains associated with a pivotal period of pop rock in Spain, before Manolo García and Quimi Portet each pursued separate solo careers.
