Donny Osmond

Born in Ogden, Utah, Donny Osmond established himself early on in the American pop scene as a member of the family group the Osmonds, who were introduced on television in the 1960s on The Andy Williams Show. Alongside the group, Donny launched a solo career in the early 1970s with melodic pop influenced by bubblegum pop, variety music and the then-dominant teen pop style, exemplified by albums such as The Donny Osmond Album (1971), Too Young (1972) and A Time for Us (1973). After a quieter period, he shifted toward a more adult-oriented, synth-tinged pop and pop-rock sound with Donny Osmond (1989) and Eyes Don’t Lie (1990), notably propelled by “Soldier of Love.” Over the decades, Donny Osmond moved between music, television and the stage, performing as a duo with his sister Marie Osmond on Donny & Marie and holding a long residency in Las Vegas from 2008 to 2019. He also established a lasting presence in musical theatre, portraying Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Gaston in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. His discography continued with What I Meant to Say (2004), which showcased his growth as a songwriter, and Start Again (2021), a contemporary pop record still centered on his voice and classic song formats.
