Darkher

Born in West Yorkshire around the singer, guitarist and songwriter Jayn H. Wissenberg, Darkher takes form in the early 2010s in a register situated between atmospheric doom, post-rock and dark folk. The project prolongs Jayn Wissenberg's journey after The Steals, with a writing centered on slow tempos, tense acoustic and electric guitars, discreet textures and an ethereal voice that remains at the forefront. Darkher first releases the EP Darkher in 2013, then The Kingdom Field in 2014, before a debut album, Realms, in 2016, followed by The Buried Storm in 2022, both released on Prophecy Productions. As a band, Darkher revolves around Jayn Wissenberg, with Martin T. Wissenberg on bass and guitar, and Shaun Taylor-Steels on drums. On stage, Darkher has appeared notably at Roadburn Festival and Prophecy Fest in 2015, in contexts where doom, atmospheric rock and contemplative-textured music intersect. Darkher's music rests on a balance between folk sparsity, measured heft and melancholic moods, without tipping into showiness, with stretched compositions that prioritize progression and resonance.
