Ellie Beaton

Born in Rothienorman, in northeastern Scotland, Ellie Beaton develops a repertoire at the crossroads of traditional Scottish folk, Scots-language singing, and a vocal approach nourished by classical training. From a Doric environment, the Scots dialect of Aberdeenshire, Ellie Beaton naturally integrates this language into her work and aligns herself with the northeast Scottish sung tradition, while also drawing from broader repertoires of British folk. Her voice and interpretation have placed her on the Scottish folk and trad stages for several years, with appearances at festivals and concerts in the United Kingdom as well as in Europe. In 2021, Ellie Beaton became the youngest winner of the Citty Finlayson Scots Singer of the Year title at the Scots Trad Music Awards, and in 2025 she won the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, two milestones accompanying her emergence on the Scottish traditional scene. Based in Glasgow after growing up in Aberdeenshire, she also pursues a parallel path in classical singing and in 2024 obtained a Bachelor of Music in Classical Vocal Studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Ellie Beaton is also working on a debut album announced around a dialogue between the traditions of northeast Scotland and her more recent anchoring in Glasgow.
