Colleen

Born in Montargis in 1976 and based in Barcelona, Cécile Schott has developed the Colleen project since 2001 in a register between ambient, electronic music and experimental composition. Colleen’s early records relied on loops and reworked samples, with a pronounced taste for fragile timbres and repetitive forms, as on Everyone Alive Wants Answers (2003). Soon Colleen shifted this language toward playing more grounded in acoustic sources and physical instruments, already evident on The Golden Morning Breaks (2005) and Les Ondes Silencieuses (2007), where the writing became freer and less tied to the loop principle. This period also included work for dance, notably with choreographer Perrine Valli. From The Weighing of the Heart (2013) Colleen introduced her voice into her music while maintaining a minimal, melodic approach attentive to textures, continued on Captain of None (2015), A Flame My Love, a Frequency (2017) and The Tunnel and the Clearing (2021). With Le jour et la nuit du réel (2023), Colleen returned to a fully instrumental form, in which electronics remain discreet in favor of resonance, motif and sonic space.
