Mary Lattimore

American harpist born in Asheville, North Carolina, and trained at Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, Mary Lattimore has developed a body of work centered on the amplified harp, at the crossroads of ambient, experimental music, and a distinct folk lineage. Based first in Philadelphia and later in Los Angeles, she initially emerged from indie and underground scenes, collaborating notably with Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore, and Sharon Van Etten, before building a solo discography defined by long, meditative pieces. Her first internationally recognized album arrived with The Withdrawing Room in 2013, followed by At the Dam in 2016, the compilations Collected Pieces in 2017 and Collected Pieces II in 2020, and then Hundreds of Days in 2018, Silver Ladders in 2020, and Goodbye, Hotel Arkada in 2023. In parallel, Lattimore has pursued several duo projects, notably with Jeff Zeigler on Slant of Light (2014) and with Meg Baird on Ghost Forests (2018). Built from loops, repeated motifs, and improvisations, her compositions explore textures akin to drone, film music, and a melodic minimalism, which she presents live at venues, festivals, and art spaces across Europe and North America.
