Malk De Koijn
Formed in Denmark in 1994, Malk De Koijn brings together Tue Track, Geolo Geo and Blæs Bukki around a Danish-language rap that inverts the codes of American hip-hop through wordplay, local slang and a marked taste for absurd imagery. The trio established itself at the end of the 1990s with a style that stood apart in the Scandinavian scene, between supple productions, funky rhythms and dense writing, often infused with humor, associations of ideas and verbal distortions. Malk De Koijn released Smash Hit In Aberdeen in 1998, then Sneglzilla in 2002, two records that permanently established their identity, at once rooted in classic rap and open to more offbeat forms. After an initial period of activity until 2004, the members pursued various projects, notably in music and on stage, before the group’s return at the end of the 2000s. This comeback led to Toback to the Fromtime in 2011, which extended their approach to playful hip-hop, highly written and language-centered. Present on major Danish stages, notably at Roskilde Festival, Malk De Koijn retains a singular place in Nordic rap through their collective trio work and their way of making local traditions, hip-hop culture and a sense of detachment dialogue.
