Østkyst Hustlers

Formed in the early 1990s in Copenhagen, Østkyst Hustlers were part of the rise of Danish-language rap, shaping a trio centered on storytelling and the local spoken tongue. The group stood out on the Danish hip-hop scene for narrative Danish lyrics that mixed depictions of urban everyday life, humor and social commentary over productions close to boom bap and American old-school rap, adapted to a Scandinavian context. Their first full-length album, Verdens Længste Rap (1995), is built around the concept of a long-form track in several parts, which established the group in a continuous storytelling mode with recurring characters. During the second half of the 1990s the trio kept up a steady run of gigs and releases, refining a style in which dialogues, spoken skits and sung choruses took on greater prominence while remaining rooted in hip-hop. Østkyst Hustlers occasionally collaborated with other Danish rappers of the same generation and returned regularly to the stage from the 2010s onward with anniversary tours, reissues and new projects, consolidating a lasting presence on the Danish rap scene.
