Jerry Fish

Under the name Jerry Fish, Gerard Whelan has been developing from Dublin a project that first appeared in the early 2000s in the wake of An Emotional Fish, the band of which he is also the singer. Surrounded by The Mudbug Club, a group conceived as a loosely defined collective, Jerry Fish blends alternative rock, cabaret-pop, urban folk and Latin accents in an aesthetic that is often theatrical, nourished by circus imagery, film music and a songwriting approach rooted in the Irish scene. The first album, Be Yourself, was released in 2002, followed by Live At The Spiegeltent in 2004, recorded as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival, then The Beautiful Untrue in 2009. Over the course of this trajectory, Jerry Fish has shared the bill at many festivals in Ireland and the United Kingdom, including Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, T in the Park, Oxegen and Electric Picnic, while maintaining an independent footing with his label The Mudbug Club. His career also includes occasional collaborations, notably with Damien Rice on Be Yourself, then with Imelda May and Carol Keogh on The Beautiful Untrue. Jerry Fish thus holds a distinctive place in the Irish landscape, between alternative song, band energy and a taste for blended arrangements.
