Lyambiko
Born in 1978 in Greiz, Thuringia, Sandy Müller chose Lyambiko, the name of her father from Tanzania, as her stage name. Based in Berlin since 1999, she has gradually established herself in the German jazz scene through a repertoire nourished by standards, swing, soul jazz and Latin inflections, with a voice worked in a frame that is at once sober and expressive. After early beginnings in folk, pop and blues ensembles, followed by performances in Berlin clubs, Lyambiko gave a decisive first push to her career in the early 2000s, notably around the quartet that has borne her name since 2001. This lineup has over time gathered musicians such as Marque Lowenthal, Robin Draganic, Torsten Zwingenberger, Heinrich Köbberling, Stephan König or Thomas Brendgens-Mönkemeyer. Her discography includes notably Out of This Mood (2002), Shades of Delight (2003), Lyambiko (2005), Love... And Then (2006), Inner Sense (2007), where she also signs her first compositions, Saffronia (2008), a homage to Nina Simone, Something Like Reality (2010), Lyambiko Sings Gershwin (2012), Muse (2015), Love Letters (2017), My Favourite Christmas Songs (2018) and Berlin - New York (2019). Lyambiko thus evolves between reinterpretations of the jazz repertoire, personal writing and stage formats ranging from duo to quartet.
