Duran Duran

Formed in Birmingham, England, in the late 1970s, Duran Duran emerged from the new wave and synth-pop scene centered on clubs and the New Romantic movement. The core lineup—Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Andy Taylor and, from 1980, vocalist Simon Le Bon—shaped the band’s early recordings. The debut album "Duran Duran" (1981), followed by "Rio" (1982) and "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" (1983), blended electronic pop, rock guitars and danceable rhythms and was closely associated with a strong visual aesthetic, notably through music videos. In the mid-1980s, the temporary departures of Andy and Roger Taylor led the band toward a funk- and pop-oriented sound on "Notorious" (1986) and "Big Thing" (1988), while side projects like Arcadia and The Power Station ran in parallel. The 1990s brought a new phase with "Liberty" (1990) and then "Duran Duran (The Wedding Album)" (1993), which revived more melodic pop songwriting, followed by "Thank You" (1995) and "Medazzaland" (1997), where the band incorporated more electronic elements. After "Pop Trash" (2000), the reunion of the classic lineup produced "Astronaut" (2004), followed by further pop and electronic explorations on "Red Carpet Massacre" (2007), "All You Need Is Now" (2010), "Paper Gods" (2015), "Future Past" (2021) and "Danse Macabre" (2023), confirming Duran Duran as a band that has navigated between pop, rock and dance across several decades.
