Księżyc
Born in Poland in the early 1990s, Księżyc gathers a core of musicians around Agata Harz and Katarzyna Smoluk-Moczydłowska, forging dialogue between singing, Central European folklore and sonic research. Formed initially as an a cappella vocal trio before expanding its lineup, Księżyc develops music at the crossroads of Polish folk, experimental, ambient and a minimalist approach marked by both ancient repertoires and the avant-garde of the 20th century. The group draws on nursery rhymes, folk motifs, drones, repetitions and stripped-down harmonies, with an approach in which the voice remains central. After beginnings on street theatre stages and several concerts in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, Księżyc released the EP Nów in 1993 and the album Księżyc in 1996. The group's activity then paused for many years, while some members pursued projects related to traditional music and ethnography. The 2013 reissue of Księżyc rekindled interest in this formation, which reformed in 2014 and returned to the stage, notably as part of the Unsound festival. A second album, Rabbit Eclipse, appeared in 2015. Since this revival, Księżyc has circulated again on European experimental stages and continued occasional collaborations, notably with Tim Hecker on a track released in 2021.
