Dr. Macabre - Lunatic Asylum

Born in Paris in 1968, Guillaume Leroux has been developing since the early 1990s several projects related to electronic music, including Dr. Macabre for his hardcore techno side, but also Lunatic Asylum and Renegade Legion on the trance side. Dr. Macabre is part of a dark, fast and abrasive aesthetic, marked by horror-film atmospheres, hard rhythms and a taste for acidic and industrial textures. After a notable early career under the name Lunatic Asylum with the EPs Techno Sucks Vol. 1 and Techno Sucks Vol. 2 in 1993, followed by The Meltdown in 1994, Guillaume Leroux joined in the mid-1990s the orbit of the German label PCP led by Marc Acardipane, where Digital Cameleon, Dark Forces under the name Renegade Legion, and Dr. Macabre's Ghost Stories Chapter 1 appeared in 1996. In the second half of the decade, Dr. Macabre moves between the French, Dutch and German hardcore scenes, with releases such as Danse Macabre in 1998 and Paranoid Archives in 1999. The project then continues at Epileptik Productions with Mémoires d’Outre-Tombe in 2003, Chronique d’une mort annoncée in 2004 and Confessiones In Articulo Mortis in 2005, while Guillaume Leroux also collaborates with Manu le Malin within Manga Corps. Dr. Macabre thus remains attached to a period when European rave saw hardcore, trance and Gothic imagery intersect in a single momentum.
