69db
Under the name 69db, Sebastian Vaughan has been developing from England a practice tied to the electronic music of the free party scene, following in the wake of Spiral Tribe, of which he was a member. The 69db project intersects several rave sound-system aesthetics, showing a pronounced taste for jungle, drum’n’bass, breakbeat, dub and hardtek in sets and productions where broken rhythms, heavy basslines and raw textures take center stage. This hybrid approach is also evident in his discography—In Dub Technic (2000), 69 Db Meets MC Tablloyd: Freestyling (2000), Dragoon Dub (2002) and Break-tec (2006)—which testify to work located between electronic dub, fast breaks and techno energy. He has also circulated under the name Seb, remaining linked to a DIY culture, to sound systems and to a direct relationship with the dancefloor. Through 69db, Sebastian Vaughan maintains an identity firmly rooted in the circulations between free techno, bass music and the British rave legacy.
