Matthis Pascaud

Based in Paris, Matthis Pascaud develops a career as a guitarist, composer and producer at the crossroads of jazz, rock and improvised music. His playing is part of an aesthetic marked by electric textures, the heritage of 1970s rock and an openness to improvisation. Matthis Pascaud accompanies and shares the stage with artists from diverse horizons, among them Ayo, Erik Truffaz, Marion Rampal, Hugh Coltman or Anne Paceo, while pursuing his own projects. He also serves as artistic director of Haitian singer Moonlight Benjamin, with whom he develops a meeting between rock energy and references to Haitian voodoo traditions, in a repertoire presented on many stages in France and internationally. Since 2015, Matthis Pascaud has led Square One, a formation conceived as a space for dialogue between jazz freedom and rock power, which he describes as 'progressive jazz'. The group released the albums Square One in 2018 and Broken Home in 2021. In 2018, Square One received the orchestra prize at the La Défense National Jazz Competition. In 2022, Matthis Pascaud co-authored the album Night Trippin' with Hugh Coltman, a tribute to Dr. John's repertoire. More recently, Matthis Pascaud worked on Loup(s), recorded with drummer Raphaël Chassin at Abbey Road Studios in London.
