Under the name mui zyu, Eva Liu has been developing, from the United Kingdom, an experimental pop nourished by electronic elements, orchestral textures and references to traditional Chinese music. As a British artist of Hong Kong origin, she brings forth a universe where pop melodies, deformed rhythms and string arrangements coexist with a pronounced attention to questions of identity, cultural displacement and memory. Her first album, Rotten Bun for an Eggless Century, released in 2023, lays the foundations for this chiaroscuro writing, between art pop, electronic music and dreamy songs. mui zyu articulates a highly personal approach, at once intimate and conceptual, rooted in independent scenes open to crossovers between adventurous pop and experimental forms. Her second album, nothing or something to die for, released in 2025, continues this trajectory by broadening the view toward the tensions of the present and human connections, without abandoning the contrast between melodic sweetness and unstable atmospheres. Across these two records, mui zyu asserts a signature made of precise sonic collages, hushed vocals and songs that play on the friction between fragility, strangeness and pop immediacy.
