Raine Maida
Born in Weston, in west Toronto, Raine Maida first rose to prominence in the early 1990s as the singer and principal songwriter of Our Lady Peace, a band formed in 1992 that sits within North American alternative rock—between post-grunge, melodic tension and introspective writing. Across the group's albums, from Naveed (1994) to Spiritual Machines II (2021), Maida developed a recognisable vocal signature, often high-placed, with a nervous phrasing and lyrics influenced by spoken-word poetry. At the same time, he pursued a more stripped-down solo path focused on folk and acoustic formats, releasing The Hunters Lullaby in 2007 and We All Get Lighter in 2013, following the Pachamama EP I and Pachamama EP II issued in 2012. His off-stage work also includes songwriting and production for other artists, notably alongside Chantal Kreviazuk, with whom he also carried the Moon vs Sun project. Between alternative rock, folk and spoken word, Raine Maida thus alternates between band energy, personal songwriting and collaborations rooted in the Canadian and North American scene.
