Cem Adrian
Born in 1980 into a family of Bosnian origin and raised in Edirne, Turkey, Cem Adrian has established himself as a singer‑songwriter at the crossroads of alternative pop, experimental music and intimate chanson. He began very young as a radio host and singer, before being noticed in the early 2000s by pianist Fazıl Say, who invited him to study as a “special student” at the Conservatory of Bilkent University in Ankara. His first album, “Ben Bu Şarkıyı Sana Yazdım” (2005), recorded over several years from personal demos, laid the foundations for a world combining dark ballads, Anatolian folk influences, electronic touches and atmospheres close to chamber music. With “Aşk Bu Gece Şehri Terk Etti” (2006) and “Emir” (2008) he expanded this palette toward more structured compositions featuring spare acoustic arrangements, ambient textures and passages bordering on vocal jazz. Alternating studio albums, conceptual projects and occasional collaborations with musicians from the Turkish classical and jazz scenes, Cem Adrian has developed a repertoire centered on voice and songwriting, often presented in small formations that favour a direct rapport with the audience.
