Das Kinn

Under the name Das Kinn, Toben Piel develops a solo project from Frankfurt that sits between post‑punk, krautrock, minimal electro and art‑rock. His writing plays on repetition, rhythmic tension and the alternation between spoken vocals, singing and more jagged phrasing. Das Kinn continues a trajectory begun in various musical and performative contexts: Piel has been part of Antitainment, the duo Les Trucs and the FM Aether project, while also producing work for theatre and radio. This movement between the music stage, performance and sound creation is reflected in Das Kinn’s aesthetic, where structures remain clear but open to displacement, with a taste for contrasts between post‑punk dryness, a motorik pulse and electronic textures. The project is also part of Toben Piel’s broader activity in Frankfurt, where he has been involved with the cassette label MMODEMM and the organisation of events dedicated to electronic music. Among his collaborations outside the strictly musical sphere is work with choreographer Meg Stuart on the piece Solos and Duets.
