Lia Pappas-Kemps
Born in Toronto, Lia Pappas-Kemps developed an early practice of songwriting and performing. In late adolescence she shared her own songs and covers on social media, before formalizing her project in the early 2020s. Lia Pappas-Kemps operates in an alternative register that blends pop ballads, indie rock and grunge-tinged elements, characterized by introspective lyrics, pliant melodic lines and a marked taste for contrasts between restraint and intensity. In 2021 and 2022 she released several singles that established this aesthetic, including the more abrasive “Jinx” as well as “Sad in Toronto” and “Object at Best,” which lean toward a slower, emotionally driven form of alternative song. She continued that trajectory with the EP Gleam in 2024, propelled notably by “Switchblade,” “Just the Thought” and “Catch Release.” Her path reflects continuous evolution between personal storytelling, melodic exploration and compact pop‑rock formats.
