Jon Gomm
Originally from Blackpool, Lancashire, Jon Gomm began on ukulele and later guitar at an early age. He trained at the Guitar Institute in London and at Leeds College of Music, where he developed his first solo shows in the early 2000s. Gomm’s music blends acoustic folk with blues, soul, rock and jazz; his vocals are central and his highly percussive fingerstyle makes bass lines, rhythms, chords and melody coexist on a single guitar. He released Hypertension in 2003, Don’t Panic in 2009 and Secrets Nobody Keeps in 2013. From 2004 he toured full-time across the UK, Europe and beyond, playing clubs and theatres as well as art centres and guitar festivals. His career has seen him share stages with Preston Reed, Andy McKee, Tommy Emmanuel and Nick Harper, and take part in the Guitar Masters Tour. In 2011 his composition Passionflower began circulating widely online, and a cover of Ain’t Nobody the following year further broadened his audience. Since then Jon Gomm has continued to focus on live performance and acoustic songwriting that draws on both the singer-songwriter tradition and contemporary instrumental forms.
