Shanique Marie

Based in London, UK, Shanique Marie has developed a practice that links singing, production and DJing within a single language shaped by broken beat, house, soul, jazz and R&B. Active on the British scene since the 2010s, she places her music in the continuity of London’s particular intersections between club music and vocal songwriting, featuring flexible rhythms, jazz harmonies and a strong focus on groove. Releases under her own name as well as appearances on other projects position her within a network of artists connected to the house and broken beat scenes, where the voice holds a central role without abandoning the dancefloor. In both her DJ sets and her tracks, Shanique Marie juxtaposes electronic textures, a soul heritage and a highly rhythmic approach to singing, in a format that includes club-oriented cuts as well as more downtempo pieces.
