Caspa
Born Gary McCann and hailing from West London, Caspa has established himself from the mid-2000s in the British dubstep scene with a sound centered on massive basslines, heavy rhythms and an energy inherited from grime, hip-hop and jungle. After an initial breakout around the track «Bassbins», he founded Storming Productions in 2004 and then developed Dub Police and Sub Soldiers, two entities linked to the rise of London dubstep. Caspa then helped circulate the genre between clubs, radio and festivals, notably through Rinse FM, Fabric and numerous scenes in the UK as well as internationally. His path regularly crosses Rusko's, with whom he notably released the mixed compilation FabricLive.37 in 2007, an important landmark of that period. Caspa then released the album Everybody’s Talking, Nobody’s Listening in 2009, followed by Alpha Omega in 2013, while also putting out singles, EPs and remixes for artists from bass music as well as a broader repertoire. Based temporarily in Denver in the mid-2010s, Caspa continued to evolve his approach between dubstep, bass music and more rave-inflected tones, without abandoning a direct, physical aesthetic and a club-focused mindset.
