Carsie Blanton

Born in Luray, Virginia, and having spent time in Eugene, Oregon before settling in Philadelphia and then New Orleans, Carsie Blanton has since the mid-2000s developed American songwriting that crosses folk, rock, light jazz, cabaret and soul, with writing focused on storytelling, irony and social observation. Carsie Blanton began by self-producing Ain’t So Green in 2005, followed by Buoy in 2009, Beau in 2010 and Idiot Heart in 2012, along an independent path outside the traditional industry circuits. On stage, she notably toured with The Wood Brothers, participated in Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown stage version in 2011, and opened several supports for Paul Simon in the same year. Her repertoire then evolves toward a more collective and rhythmic form, carried by a group that blends drums, bass, guitar and fiddle, while keeping a prominent place for voice and text. After Buck Up in 2019, Carsie Blanton released Love & Rage in 2021, then Body of Work in 2023, conceived from releases spread over several months. After the Revolution appears in 2024, followed in the same year by The Red Album, Volume 1. Between folk songs, subtle swing, indie pop and contemporary protest song, Carsie Blanton cultivates a direct, melodic format anchored in the tradition of North American songwriters.
