Brazen Barbie
Between Perth and Melbourne, Brazen Barbie is developing a project at the crossroads of hip‑hop, rap and R&B, grounded in a Kenyan–Australian background and a direct writing style. Their musical journey begins in childhood with cello and singing, taking on a clearer form during adolescence. Brazen Barbie is part of an emerging Australian scene where Southern rap, club rhythms and more melodic vocal lines meet, with a marked taste for short, aggressive tracks built around punchy hooks. Songs like CHECK and DON’T TALK demonstrate how confidence, humour and a keen sense of phrasing are combined while maintaining a personal register. Over time Brazen Barbie has appeared on numerous stages and festivals in Australia and abroad, including Sydney Fringe Festival, BIGSOUND, SXSW and Promiseland. The aesthetic blends upfront energy, sung choruses and measured rap in a format that borrows equally from contemporary R&B, club rap and crunk, while remaining rooted in its Australian context.
