Kolmas Nainen

Formed in 1982 in Alavus, Finland, Kolmas Nainen belongs to suomirock with a writing that blends rock, pop rock and folk accents in a band format centered on Finnish-language songs. The quintet drew attention as early as 1984 at the Finnish rock championship, before settling into the local scene with a series of albums released between the 1980s and 1990s, including Kolmas Nainen (1986), Paha minut iski (1987), Hikiset siivut (1989), Hyvää ja kaunista (1990), Elämän tarkoitus (1991), Tiheän sisään (1992) and Onnen oikotiellä (1994). Around Pauli Hanhiniemi, whose singing and writing largely shaped the band's identity, Kolmas Nainen developed a direct, melodic and earthy sound, driven by guitars, a sober rhythm and everyday lyrics. After separating in 1994, the group re-emerged on stage occasionally before a lasting return from 2009, with the albums Sydänääniä (2009), Me ollaan ne (2013) and Linjassa (2019). This second period prolongs the band's aesthetic without a marked rupture, in an accessible rock vein, attached to choruses and simple narration. The story of Kolmas Nainen is also tied to that of Timo Löyvä, the guitarist present in the original lineup and who returned for the reunion, until his passing in 2024.
