Maco Maat

Based in Envigado, Antioquia, Colombian rapper Maco Maat has been developing an introspective hip‑hop since the late 2000s that centers on psychological fragility, contained anger and the tensions of urban everyday life. A founding member of the Afterclass collective alongside artists such as Luis7Lunes and Vic Deal, Maco Maat first made his mark through Maat Records with a style characterized by clear diction, direct imagery and a frequently sombre tone. His training in psychology heavily informs his lyrics, which combine clinical observation, autobiographical narrative and reflection on the emotional crises affecting some of Colombia’s youth. His discography includes several long-term projects, notably the albums Realismo Sucio (2018), marked by raw realism, Soberano (2020), Kamikaze (2021) produced by Vic Deal, and later Erguirse (2023) and Noche Larga (2025), which push this approach toward a more narratively structured rap. Maco Maat also experiments with unusual recording contexts — for example the prison-set project Celda 4-8 — and moves between classic hip‑hop productions and more contemporary sonics, while keeping writing at the core of his work.
