Funky District

Rooted in the Var, Funky District began as a disco- and house-oriented duo before evolving into a collective based in Paris. Drawing on a 1970s-inspired aesthetic, Funky District blends funk, pop, soul and R&B influences, placing strong emphasis on danceable grooves and vocal arrangements. In 2023 the project released its first EP, 404 NOT FONK, notable for its use of samples and a pronounced taste for retro sonorities. With the addition of a bassist and a saxophonist, Funky District grew into a five-piece where the rhythm section and keyboards interact with a more organic melodic approach. This new configuration gave rise to the EP Now What?, conceived with American singer–songwriter Nic Hanson, which expands the group’s spectrum toward contemporary soul nourished by funk and disco. On stage, Funky District performs this repertoire in intimate clubs as well as on larger stages in Paris and Belgium, favoring live formats centered on collective playing. Between studio production and regular live activity, Funky District continues to develop a universe where 70s imagery frames a hybrid, rhythmic pop sung in French and English.
