DJ Abdel
A DJ and producer in hip-hop and R'n'B, DJ Abdel established himself in the 1990s at the intersection of the club scene, radio and francophone rap. Initially known for sets that blended old-school funk, American rap, French rap and R'n'B, he quickly developed an approach focused on mixing and narrative transitions, which led to a series of thematic compilations released around the turn of the 2000s. At the same time he performed as a live DJ alongside hip-hop and R'n'B acts, appeared at major French urban events and refined his role as a conduit between American music and more popular repertoires, incorporating North African and Latin references. DJ Abdel also devoted himself to studio work, producing and co-producing tracks for francophone rap and pop artists—work that brought him into sound design for television and film, notably the soundtrack for the animated series Funky Cops in the early 2000s. Still active on stage, in clubs and at festivals, DJ Abdel today develops dancefloor-oriented sets that continue this mix of funk, hip-hop and R'n'B while integrating the evolutions of contemporary urban music.
