Clean Pete

Dutch twin‑sisters duo Clean Pete formed in Nijmegen around Loes and Renée Wijnhoven, who write and sing in Dutch in an aesthetic that sits between intimate pop, folk and chanson. Clean Pete relies on spare arrangements centered on the interweaving of their voices, guitar and cello, with narrative lyrics rooted in everyday life, relationships and small urban stories. Active since the early 2010s, the duo has gradually released singles, EPs and albums that have established Clean Pete on the Netherlands’ independent scene, with a steady presence in venues and clubs and a strong online profile. Through occasional collaborations with other musicians from the Dutch pop and folk sphere, the project refines a sound in which the Dutch language remains central—both for the rhythm of the words and for the direct, sometimes slightly ironic tone of their lyrics. Clean Pete thus explores a form of contemporary chamber pop that favors simple melodies, vocal harmonies and precise songwriting over showy sound effects.
