Midfield General

Under the name Midfield General, Damian Harris has since the 1990s been pursuing a career tied to British electronic music between London and Brighton. Born in Whitstable, Kent, he moves through Brighton's local scene, where he studies art, works as a DJ, and helps organize parties before founding the Skint Records label, associated with the rise of big beat. Midfield General fits into this current while crossing it with electronica, hip-hop culture, acid house, and a persistent taste for punk energy, giving his productions a sound that is rough, rhythmic and often offbeat. His first singles appear in the mid-1990s, then Midfield General releases the album Generalisation in 2000 and General Disarray in 2008. His activity also extends to mixing with On the Floor at the Boutique – Volume 3, released in 2000. Close to Norman Cook, whom he met in Brighton before the Fatboy Slim era, Damian Harris evolves in an environment where club culture, independent labels and hybrid formats between dance music and experimental pop cross paths. Midfield General thus remains attached to a producer and DJ approach shaped by the English scenes of the 1990s and 2000s.
