Helene Blum
Born in 1979 in Gelsted on the island of Funen, Denmark, Helene Blum has built a career situated between Danish folk and pop songwriting, focusing on the voice and on Danish-language repertoire. Trained at the Funen Conservatory of Music, Helene Blum became in 2004 the first singer to graduate from the institution’s folk program, before launching her solo discography with En sød og liflig klang in 2006. She followed with En gang og altid (2009), Liden sol (2010), Men med åbne øjne (2013), Julerosen (2016) and Dråber af Tid (2017), albums that reveal an approach where Scandinavian tradition blends with contemporary arrangements and a more intimate than demonstrative expression. Helene Blum also works regularly with violinist Harald Haugaard in the Helene Blum & Harald Haugaard Band, a formation that places her singing in close dialogue with strings and acoustic textures. The project has taken her to stages in Denmark, Germany, Canada and Japan, and has resulted in the albums Strømmen (2020) and Den Store Sommer (2023).
