Torfrock
Formed in 1976 in Schleswig-Holstein, Torfrock is part of the German-language rock tradition, blending hard rock, humour and rural references from northern Germany. The band is built around founders Klaus Büchner and Raymond Voß and over the years developed a repertoire performed in both standard German and Low German, with a narrative style focused on characters such as workers, truckers and fictional villagers from the north. Torfrock describe their approach as a straightforward “Bagalutenrock”, driven by classic rock guitars, simple choruses and a deliberately down-to-earth tone. From the late 1970s onwards the band released numerous studio recordings and toured clubs and festivals across Germany, with a strong foothold in northern regions. A major milestone came with the songs created for Rötger Feldmann’s “Werner” comics and films—most notably the track “Beinhart”, which permanently associated Torfrock with that franchise and the large-scale live events that followed. Despite lineup changes, the band has continued to perform, through themed tours and recurring appearances on the German-language rock and comedy circuit, maintaining the continuity of the Torfrock project over several decades.
