Tørfisk
Born on the west coast of Jutland, the Danish band Tørfisk formed in Thyborøn in the late 1970s and fits within the tradition of Scandinavian vise‑singing and folk music. From the start they developed a repertoire centered on the everyday life of fishing communities, the landscapes of the Limfjord and the humour characteristic of the West Jutland dialect, featuring narrative songs carried by polyphonic voices and simple acoustic accompaniment. The group gained recognition during the 1980s through tours in local venues and regional festivals, before securing a lasting presence on the Danish scene with regular concerts across the country. The song “VLTJ”, inspired by the Lemvig–Thyborøn railway line, became one of the pieces most associated with Tørfisk and exemplifies how the band blends social chronicle with observations of daily life. Through lineup changes Tørfisk has retained an identity based on original compositions, a few traditional covers and a direct acoustic aesthetic—ranging from ballads and call‑and‑response songs to more humorous numbers—maintaining a close link to its maritime and rural roots.
