Gregory Charles
Born in Greenfield Park, Quebec, to a family with Québécois and Trinidadian roots, Gregory Charles began intensive classical piano training at an early age before pursuing a career that blends popular music and media. Educated in classical and choral repertoire, he made a name for himself in various competitions and then joined the Quebec television scene in the early 1990s, taking on acting roles, children’s programs, and variety shows. In parallel, Charles developed as a performer and songwriter rooted in francophone chanson, pop, and soul, weaving elements of jazz and gospel into his piano playing. From the 2000s onward, he created shows built around improvisation, medleys, and interaction with audiences, which toured venues and festivals across Canada and Europe. A prominent presence in Canadian francophone television—particularly as a host and music educator on variety and reality programs—Gregory Charles alternates between concerts, large-scale stage projects featuring substantial vocal ensembles, and occasional collaborations with artists from Quebec’s chanson and pop scenes, in both French and English.
