Oakwood

Born between Midland and Odessa, Texas, Oakwood brings together Mat, TJ and Noah — three musicians active together since 2013 who later settled in Austin. The trio operates where indie rock, melodic emo and punk intersect, with compact songwriting, guitars that are sometimes bright and at other times more tense, and songs built around direct rather than demonstrative energy. Oakwood's first period was notably centered on the EP "Summer", before a move to Austin that further embedded the band in the Texas independent scene. Over time Oakwood has retained the tight trio format while refining a denser, more nuanced sound, between punk urgency and indie sensitivity. More recently Oakwood unveiled the tracks "Footnote" and "A Tangled Mess", recorded by Phillip Odom and mastered by Will Yip — two songs that continue this trajectory without any change in tone. Between Texan roots, DIY culture and straightforward melodies, Oakwood develops a repertoire in which the guitars' nervousness remains tied to a very clear, accessible approach to songwriting.
