Made Kuti

Raised at the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos, Made Kuti — born Omorinmade Anikulapo-Kuti in 1995 — grew up immersed in the Nigerian afrobeat scene and began performing early on with Positive Force, his father Femi Kuti’s band, on local and international stages. A multi-instrumentalist trained notably at London’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire, Made Kuti developed a songwriting approach that extends the family’s afrobeat legacy by integrating elements of jazz, highlife, funk, rock and reggae. Brass arrangements, circular rhythms and lyrics rooted in social and political realities play a central role in his work. After the singles “Free Your Mind” and “Your Enemy” in 2020, he released his debut album For(e)ward in 2021, which was also presented as part of the joint Legacy+ project alongside Femi Kuti’s “Stop the Hate.” In the same year he launched his own band, The Movement, and further established his stage identity under his own name. His discography continued with the singles “Stand Tall” and “No More Wars” in 2022, followed in 2025 by Chapter 1: Where Does Happiness Come From?, which confirms a precise, dense afrobeat that remains open to multiple musical traditions.
