M3NSA

Born in Accra in 1981, Mensa Ansah, known as M3NSA, has built a career since the late 1990s that moves between Ghana and the British scene. His work sits at the crossroads of hip-hop, hiplife, highlife, afrobeats and a subtly integrated electronic aesthetic. M3NSA began in the group The Lifeline Family before shifting toward production and collaborating notably with Reggie Rockstone at a time when Ghanaian rap was seeking its own local forms. As a solo artist he alternates rap, singing, songwriting and production, with lyrics that mix English, Accra’s urban references and West African musical heritage. His practice also extends to collective projects such as FOKN Bois and RedRed, where humour, social commentary and stylistic hybridisation play important roles. M3NSA’s music circulates between hip-hop rhythms, highlife melodic lines, electronic textures and more flexible song formats, without anchoring itself to a single scene. This long-term trajectory has made him a consistent presence in the exchanges between African rap, Ghanaian pop cultures and transdisciplinary practices linked to film and performance.
