Marc Hype

Born in Berlin in 1973, Marc Hype has been building his career as a DJ and producer since the late 1980s, initially under the name DJ Hype before permanently adopting Marc Hype. Coming from the German hip‑hop scene, he was part of the group Cheeba Garden in the 1990s and quickly made a name in turntablism, winning two titles at the ITF German DJ Championships in 1998 and 1999. His work sits at the crossroads of classic hip‑hop, funk breaks, rare groove and dancefloor‑oriented edits, with a strong commitment to vinyl and 45‑rpm formats. His first solo album, 1973 * Recon, was released in 2003, and from 2004 he developed a sustained project with pianist Jim Dunloop where breaks, groove and live piano lines blend in a format between a DJ set and a live performance. Their album Stamp Out Reality came out in 2009. Marc Hype is also a member of the Dusty Donuts DJ Squad and the British collective 45 Live, two contexts that fit his taste for reworked funk, soul and hip‑hop selections. Over the years he has played on club, b‑boy and festival stages across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia.
