Mahogany
Formed in Michigan in 1995 around Andrew Prinz and Allysa Massais, Mahogany later operated between Brooklyn, Philadelphia, New York and Chicago, with a variable line‑up that more recently became a duo centered on Andrew Prinz and Jaclyn Slimm. Mahogany works at the intersection of ambient pop, dream pop, shoegaze, post‑rock and understated indie electronics, featuring diaphanous vocals, layered guitars, repetitive motifs and songwriting that values texture as much as melody. Before their albums, Mahogany released several EPs in the late 1990s, including Dual Group with Auburn Lull in 1997, Luminous Constructions the same year and What Will Become of the Key of Reason? in 1997. Their first full‑length, The Dream of a Modern Day, was released in 2000 and reissued in 2001, followed by the compilation Memory Column: Early Works and Rarities 1996–2004 in 2005. In 2006 Mahogany released Connectivity!, featuring contributions from Robin Guthrie on several tracks. Linked from the start to the Lovesliescrushing and Astrobrite milieu, Mahogany has also developed a practice in which music dialogues with image, film and graphic design, while circulating on indie and experimental scenes.
